I read a post on a deal website about a Gretsch Streamliner guitar and it has left a stain in my mind that won’t go away. A person wrote that Gretsch guitars are crap because they are not made in America. Gretsch guitars are either made in Korea or Indonesia. If you look at any reputable guitar seller, they will offer the Gretsch Streamliners from around $500 to $1000. This deal was for a brand new Gretsch Streamliner for $299. What a steal. However this poster says that if you cannot afford to buy American you shouldn’t be making music at all. This blew my mind. The fact that someone like this person exists in society and potentially is influencing kids to not make music because they don’t own an American made instrument is outright disturbing to me. To think of this person had their way in society, the amount of good music wouldn’t have been made. Just think of all the hit songs today that would have not been made if the artist didn’t have access to an American made instrument. I know that this person probably was an online troll trying to play the shock card for views. However with today’s general attitude and behaviors I cannot discount the fact that this was straight racism. I want to make it clear that you don’t have to own American instruments to explore creativity and to make music. Please make sure if you hear garbage like that in public to defend creativity.
