Musical journey seems like a topic that doesn’t fit in with who I am if you know me in any capacity. That is because I don’t have the artistic bone in me. However the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic really changed me. Before Covid-19 I really thought art was a waste of time. We only should be focused on science and technology because hard facts and truths are what keeps people from dying and making things work.
Enter the Covid-19 pandemic and low and behold I had to find things to do at home when I’m not at work. Everything that was fun to do was shut down due to government regulations. Out of nowhere my son strolled into a music store called Sticks N Strings in Tucson while my wife was in physical therapy and brought home an orange half-sized electric guitar. I quickly had to learn some basics to of the guitar to help him learn chords. And this is where the itch begins. After watching numerous Youtube videos of how to play songs, I ended going back to the music store my son got his little electric guitar and picked up an acoustic guitar. It was a Teton Guitars STG100NT Grand Concert spruce top and laminate mahogany sides [link].

This was obviously the first time I had bought an acoustic guitar. It sounded great and played easy. I remember when I was younger and remembered how hard it was to play anything. But with this Teton Guitar, making a clean chord was pretty easy. And thus this was the moment that my passion for playing guitar begins
I quickly realized how much happier I became for being able to play a simple song on the guitar. I immediately noticed how I was more interested in music and art. Did I become a better person by playing an instrument? I don’t know but I did notice how much happier I am when I play the guitar. The old saying that music is cheaper than therapy is true. I am pretty sure picking up a guitar got me through the pandemic and I know now that I have a much bigger appreciation for the arts and how it makes people’s lives better.
Math/science/engineering makes things work. Art makes that thing engineers built interesting and unique. If it wasn’t for art, everything in the world would be generic and bland.
